Palram – Canopia 10x24 Aluminum Olympia Patio Cover Kit - Gray & Bronze (HG8824)

Overall, I am relatively pleased with this item, but there are some significant short-comings. I purchased this cover because the 10/24 size perfectly covered and existing deck. And, the fact that the support poles could be moved in two directions meant that I could place them inside the existing railing. I thought I was purchasing the perfect solution for my situation. However, the available literature is misleading. All of the drawings and photos available imply that the poles can be equally spaced a shown in the drawings. That is not the case. The 10X24 cover is really the combination of a 10X10 and a 10X14 hooked together with some additional hardware. The middle pole on the 10X14 cannot be adjusted laterally because it supports the joint between two seven foot beams. Therefore there is no way to get equal spacing between the poles whether you use all 5 or just 4 poles. I would have ended up with two poles 10 ft apart and three poles 7 feet apart had I followed the instructions. And, I would have had oddly spaced poles in the middle of the steps onto the deck. I was able to make it work by using only four poles, placing the 10 ft section centered over my deck steps, and attaching half of the 14 ft section to either side of the 10ft section. Note: this is not how the instructions say to set it up or how the hardware is configured. It required that I drill additional holes in one of the seven ft sections in order to fit the panels and make it work. This may not sound like much of a deal, but it was an unexpected surprise and I was lucky that I was able to make it work at all without an odd appearance. Had I know that the center pole on the 14 ft section was not moveable laterally, I would not have purchased the cover because I really wanted five poles because of wind and snow load concerns. Additionally the built-in gutter is a joke. It is very shallow and can only off water in a light rain. In moderate to heavy rain, the gutter over-flows its entire length and is not much better than no gutter at all. For these reasons, I can only give it 3 stars and that could go lower if it is unable to accommodate the rated wind/snow loads with only four support poles.
